Ex Scarlet Exchange

On Tuesday 21 November 2017, five In Pensioners (IP) escorted by  Rupert Lucas, Captain of Invalids Number 1 Company, Royal Hospital Chelsea visited to view and be briefed on the Attack Helicopter Force.

The visit, aptly named Exercise SCARLET EXCHANGE, was organised by Maj Colin Peall AAC, OC PRC, Colchester. The IPs, namely Jim Lycett – Ex Royal Signals, Charmaine Coleman – Ex RMP, Fred Boomer-Hawkins – Ex RGJ, Mike Smith – Ex RCT and Lawrence Jablonski – Ex RWF  were initially hosted in the Officers’ Mess and then visited the Station Museum and historic aircraft where they were briefed by two Wattisham Airfield Heritage Group members, Lynda and Trevor Terry.  Thereafter the IPs visited 653 Sqn, HQ AHF where they viewed and were briefed on an Apache Attack Helicopter by ‘A’ Flight Commander, Maj Chuck Nicol.  The visit was a great success, enjoyed not only by the In Pensioners, but the hosts too.  One of the highlights and must be a ‘first’ was to see  IP Mike Smith climb into the cockpit of an Apache!  We are now looking forward to visiting the Royal Hospital Chelsea and seeing how the other half live.
